JFilm - Unspoken

This screening will be followed by a Q&A with director Jeremy Borison.

Growing up, Noam was told he looked and acted just like his beloved grandfather did when he was young. This was comforting to the closeted gay teenager who often felt alone and out of place in his Modern Orthodox Jewish family. After his grandfather dies, Noam discovers a mysterious note in his belongings, suggesting they might have had more in common than either of them ever knew. Struggling with his own identity and hoping to find a sort of validation in his grandfather’s history, he sets out on an odyssey to discover the truth. With a star turn by actor/singer Charlie Korman, Noam’s journey becomes a heartfelt story of self-acceptance in this touching coming-of-age drama. With a nod to Glee, Director Jeremy Borison draws on personal experience to deliver a sweet and gentle tale with beautiful singing!

Good Shot Judy

 Shorty

Sound. Energy. Swagger. All these arrive onstage when Good Shot Judy shows up. Grounded in the swinging cadence of the big band era, Good Shot Judy boldly ventures wherever whimsyleads them. The big amp jazz band brings melodic muscle to every show, fueled by revelersyoung and old who eagerly follow them on an exhilarating ride through this golden age of music.

 Longie

It’s hard to nail an exact moment when Good Shot Judy came to life.

It could have been when brothers Brett and Jeff Cahoon stepped away from the success they’d achieved with their punk band Ten Years from Now and chose instead to see what they could do with the old-time jazz standards they’d admired for so long. The brothers Cahoon formed a small combo, and – wouldn’t you know it? – plenty of others felt the same groove.

Or maybe it was when an inside joke made a name for itself. Their mother, Judy Cahoon, was an avid golfer, and just as common as pars and birdies were three words of encouragement shouted by a supportive friend, who pumped a fist and hollered across the fairway every time she took a swing: “Good shot, Judy!” It became a funny family warble among the Cahoons – and as it turns out, a solid band name, too.

Or perhaps that moment of creation arrived when Good Shot Judy freed their potential energy. Keen to give the classic melodies the respect and attention – as well as the power – that it deserved, the Cahoons filled out Good Shot Judy with a full complement of horns, percussion and vocals. And magic happened: an ensemble that was bigger than the sum of its parts.

In a sense, Good Shot Judy was already in the stars long ago, during those formative decades from the 1930s on, when small jazz combos, big brass bands and the crooners who sang on top of them were forging an enduring style and repertoire that would be written into the DNA of American music.

But really, all these had a hand in making Good Shot Judy what is today: a big amp jazz band that sets stages aflame nationwide.

Audiences may never consider that the Good Shot Judy show they’re seeing has been an evolution. They’re too captivated by the sound and spectacle of music that reaches through the time. They’re too caught up in performance that has one foot dancing in the past and one in the here and now.

A Good Shot Judy show offers all those tunes you know just from growing up in America – songs you can at least hum along to, if you don’t outright know most of the words. But the music itself is only part of the band’s allure; there’s something electric in the execution, and it’s that vigor that carries the day as much as the pull of recognition.

So, yeah, there’s a history. And it’s a big one. Bigger than any one person. Bigger than any one band, for that matter. But Good Shot Judy is as close as it comes to an intersection between an era’s defining sound and the pleasure of enjoying it the way it was meant to be heard.

Soulful Femme

Stevee Wellons and Cheryl Rinovato, the two principals in the dynamic duo known as Soulful Femme, are more than simply a dynamic singing duo. They are seasoned performers in their own right, each possessing vast experience in the music business who happened to join forces and find an ideal chemistry.

The two met at a Blues Society event in 2014 and clicked immediately. A year later, they competed at the International Blues Competition in Memphis. Their first album, It Is Well With My Soul, was released in 2021. They then found themselves touring consistently, sharing stages with Tommy Castro and opening for such acts as Robert Cray, Mavis Staples, Ana Popovic, Samantha Fish, Shemekia Copeland, Joanne Shaw Taylor, Bernard Allison, Mike Zito, Albert Castiglia, and Jeremiah Johnson.

“The planets were all in line when Cheryl and I met,” Stevee insists. “It became obvious that we had to take this journey simply because it was meant to be. She and I are women of a certain age and aren't quite ready to hang up our instruments…We still have a lot to say and we’re determined to say it in the here and now!” That’s especially evident with their new album, the aptly titled Attitude. Recorded at Fat Rabbit Studies in New Jersey, it was produced by blues great Albert Castiglia and engineered by Grammy nominated Dave Gross. It also features an impressive array of special guests, with Castiglia contributing guitar, the great Tommy Castro guesting on “Talkin ’Loud and Sayin ’ Nothing,” and multiple award-winning singer and guitarist Kevin Burt dueting on “Insane Asylum.” The other musicians include Michael Bram (formally of Jason Mraz’s band on drums), Matt Raymond on bass, Doug Woolverton on trumpet, Mark Earley on tenor saxophone, and Dave Gross on Hammond organ and percussion. Not surprisingly then, the music comes across as both confident and credible, from the funk and stomp of the dynamic title track and the energized and assertive upbeat boogie of “Not Like You,” to the emphatic stance of “Crazy” and the easy stride and soulful feel that underscores “Dysfunction Funk.”

Tommy Castro concurs. “Soulful Femme is a unique act,” he declared. “Cheryl’s guitar style compliments Stevee’s voice. The songs are well crafted and I’m a fan!”

The "Best Beatles Tribute on Earth" -Rolling Stone

“1964” focuses on the quintessential moment in history, when The Beatles actually played before a LIVE audience. The Beatles toured the world in the early 1960’s, but now only a precious few remain who actually saw them LIVE. Who actually felt the “mania” that brought them to world acclaim. Today, all that remains are a few scant memories and some captured images in pictures and on poor quality film and video. “1964” meticulously re-creates the “MAGIC” of those LIVE Beatles’ performances with artful precision and unerring accuracy. For those that never saw The Beatles LIVE and always wanted to know what it must have been like…this is as close as anyone could possibly get to…FEELING the MAGIC! For over 30 years, “1964” has thrilled audiences with what is considered to be the most authentic and endearing tribute to The Beatles. This has been accomplished by a steady and consistent cast of talented professional musicians, who painstakingly recreate the look, feel and note for note sound of an actual LIVE Beatles performance.

1964 The Tribute is not endorsed by or affiliated with Apple Corps, LTD.

Pittsburgh International Dance Film Festival

Pittsburgh International Dance Film Festival

The Pittsburgh International Dance Film Festival (PIDFF) is emerging from the former Constructed Sight Dance Film Festival as the premiere dance film festival in Pittsburgh, PA. This festival features a wide range of dance films from different countries and honors a "Constructed Sight" category which highlights public works of art or focuses films on a site specific location.

This online dance film festival includes a live Opening Night Event in Pittsburgh where audiences can join through live streaming to see Panelist Picks and meet some of the artists. PIDFF also includes an online Meet & Greet Event for participating filmmakers/artists and an online Dance Film Workshop open to the public!

One artist in 2022 stated, "I've never experienced a dance film festival with such a sense and feeling of community before."

In its first year, SSD received about one hundred international submissions which a panel of 7 members curated to select festival features and the Opening Night Constructed Sight film event. Constructed Sight was a platform created by Shana Simmons, Jamie Erin Murphy, and Brady Sanders to showcase a variety of dance films through entertaining online events. These seasoned choreographers collaborated on generating new films through site specific choreography inspired by public works of art around Pittsburgh.

We consider movement to speak and film to be a lens to see this communication. We value artistic commitment, creative relationship between screen and dance, and thoughtful presentations. We're looking for films that are true to the artists' voice in an effort to curate entertaining compilations of films. We accept and present films of all production values and budget sizes. We are interested in films that incorporate site specific locations as inspiration for the work and pieces that incorporate visual art in some way, but are not limited to these elements.

This festival exists to bring people together across nations with an aim to develop personal relationships and artistic dialogue.

90's Rockfest featuring Lounge Fly and Mad Alice

The 90's featured some of the greatest music of the past 50 years, and '90s Rockfest brings you right back to the moment when it all happened. Guitars and grittiness ruled the radio and MTV, and live shows were an energy-filled experience that you just had to be part of. '90s Rockfest will transport you back to a time when rock reigned supreme and bands brought it live and loud on stage. Don't miss the chance to be part of it all again!

Lounge Fly is the premier tribute to Stone Temple Pilots, and provides fans of STP with an authentic musical and visual experience that transports them directly back to the 90's. Lounge Fly plays all of the hits and the deep cuts that made STP one of the greatest rock bands of the 90's (and beyond). Whether you remember STP from MTV and the radio, or you're a die-hard fan, Lounge Fly is a show you do not want to miss.

Mad Alice, a tribute band hailing from Pittsburgh, pays homage to two iconic grunge bands: Mad Season and Alice In Chains. Formed in 2021 by a group of seasoned musicians with an insatiable love for '90s alternative rock, Mad Alice captures the essence and energy of these influential bands.
