Rocky Horror Picture Show with JCCP
Doors 8 pm / Show 9 pm
$15 Theater Seating - Prop Kit included in ticket!
Rocky Horror Picture Show
Let’s do the time warp again with this cult classic that takes the audience into the twisted world of Dr. Frank-n-Furter, aka the “Sweet Transvestite from Transylvania”. A mild-mannered newly engaged couple gets stranded in the rain during a road trip. Thankfully, they find shelter — but they learn too late that there is nothing safe and serene at Frank-n-Furter’s castle.
The Junior Chamber of Commerce Players (JCCP) is Pittsburgh’s official Rocky Horror Picture Show shadowcast. The cast was created in May of 1978 and has grown to be known throughout the local community and beyond. They do many events in the Pittsburgh area but call The Hollywood Theater home. The cast was featured in the book and movie of “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” by Stephen Chbosky. The JCCP hosted the national Rocky Horror Picture Show convention in 2018 and will be hosting it again in 2024. You can find all information about the JCCP at jccppgh.com or @jccppgh on social media.
It is said Rocky Horror is the first and only true audience participation movie. Therefore, props are allowed and costumes are strongly encouraged! Below is a specific list of props which will be allowed at The Oaks Theater along with theater rules & regulations.
You must be at least 17 years old or accompanied by a parent or guardian (age 21 or older) to attend
This movie is all about participation but we also want to make sure the theater isn’t damaged, wrecked, or burned down (under NO circumstances should an open flame ever be used within the Oaks Theater). People are absolutely encouraged to dress up and have fun, but there are just a few things we cannot and will not allow and they are listed below as well as when to use them. Another thing we ask is to please not throw things at the screen.
Here’s your play-by-play of when to use your props, as well as the things that are not allowed:
Balloon
Is it allowed? Yes
When to use: During the song “Science Fiction Double Feature”, pop at the “When worlds collide” lyric.
Rice
Is it allowed? No – Not included in the kit and not allowed. Sorry rice can get slippery, it’s messy, and we don’t want rodents. There’s a reason people don’t throw rice at weddings anymore.
When to use: At the beginning of the film when the wedding guests exit the church.
Large “J”-“A”-“N”-“E”-“T” cards
Is it allowed? Yes, we just didn’t include it since it takes some decent coordination between people to pull off. You’re welcome to do it if you feel like your four friends can spell.
When to use: During the song “Dammit Janet” when Brad says Janet’s name, and when spells out Janet’s name, each card is held up as he spells it. Some people also write “Oh” “B”-“R”-“A”-“D” on the back of them and use them then.
Water Guns
Is it allowed? No, sorry we’re not a friend of wet floors, seats, etc..
When this normally happens: During the song There’s a Light (Over at the Frankenstein Place), while they are walking through the rain
Glow Stick / flashlight
Is it allowed? Yes (NO Lighters, matches, flammables due to fire code restrictions). Get creative and download a concert lighter app on your phone. Those are much less flammable!
When to use: During the song There’s a Light (Over at the Frankenstein Place), while the “There’s a Light” chorus is playing. Do this during the chorus and when they say “in the darkness” lower it.
Rubber Glove
Is it allowed? Yes
When to use: During Frank’s speech at the tank when he puts on the gloves, stretches and snaps them. He does this three times and try to snap them at the same time!
Noisemakers
Is it allowed? Yes
When to use: During the “Lab” scene, when the Transylvanian Guests use their noisemakers at the end of the creation speech.
Confetti
Is it allowed? No
When to use: At the end of the “Lab” scene when the wedding march is being played when they head to the bedroom.
Toilet Paper
Is it allowed? Yes
When to use: When Dr. Scott makes his entrance and Brad exclaims “Great Scott!”. Get it? Like Scotts toilet paper? Yeah, that’s why people do it. Wait to toss it when Dr. Scott crashes through the wall. By the time Dr. Scott hits the Transducer wall and Frank has his leg on the chair it’s time to stop tossing.
Party Hat
Is it allowed? Yes
When to use: During dinner, Frank will put on his party hat, and you should too. It’s a party after all and you should be dressed appropriately ????
Toast
Is it allowed? : No. Sorry it’s a pun and I love puns but your mom taught you better than to toss food. We’d rather not have crumbs everywhere either.
When this normally happens: During dinner after Frank is done carving, he will lift his class and proclaim “a toast”.
Newspaper
Is it allowed? : Yes
When to use: When Brad and Janet are caught in the storm, Janet covers her head with a newspaper, and you should do the same.
Bell
Is it allowed? Yes, if you didn’t bring a bell you can use your keys also. However it doesn’t look as cool.
When to use: When Frank is chasing Janet after dinner and asks the musical question “did you hear a bell ring?” during the song “Planet Schmanet”
Sponge
Is it allowed? Yes
When to use: When Columbia is doing her “bitch out” speech and says to Frank, “you’re like a sponge!”
Cards
Is it allowed? Yes
When to use: After floor show, when Frank is doing his solo number and sits down and sings the line “cards for sorrow, cards for pain”. Make it rain!
Rope
Is it allowed? Yes.
When to use: When the rope falls from the rigging after Riff finishes shooting.
Hot Dog and Prunes
Is it allowed? Please, please, please DON’T.
People sometimes throw these anytime they’re mentioned. It’s messy, stains things, and nobody wants to get hit with a prune or a hot dog for that matter.
We want this showing to be as enjoyable as possible so please respect other guests and our theater. Guests who bring in props not listed above and fail to adhere to the instructions above will be asked to leave.

Rocky Horror Picture Show with JCCP

JFilm - Ain’t No Back to a Merry-Go-Round
Doors 6:30 PM / Movie 7 PM
In June of 1960, despite the obstacles of sweltering summer heat and the violence of American Nazi Party counter-protestors, a contingent of Black students from Howard University found themselves joined by white suburbanites, many of whom were Jewish to protest the segregated Glen Echo Amusement Park in Maryland. Emmy-award winning director Ilana Trachtman reveals the story behind this unlikely alliance which was the first organized interracial civil rights protest in US history. Featuring gripping historical footage and vivid firsthand testimonials her film highlights a little-known moment in US history. A fierce and brave protest that found union bosses collaborating with student leaders and picketers developing unexpected friendships would ultimately give birth to some of the future giants of the Civil Rights Movement. With narration by Jeffrey Wright and Mandy Patinkin, Ain’t No Back to a Merry-Go-Round serves as a timely reminder of how far we’ve come and how far we still may have to go.

With touching honesty and keen thoughtfulness, Elie Wiesel: Soul on Fire offers a worthy tribute to an extraordinary individual, not only ensuring that Wiesel’s commitment to preservation be continued, but that his remarkable accomplishments, strength, empathy, and kindness be celebrated.

JFilm - Charles Grodin Documentary
Doors 6 PM / Movie 7 PM
Born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, Charles Grodin’s amazing life is beautifully honored in director James Freedman’s new documentary, Charles Grodin: Rebel with a Cause. Known for his sharp wit and incredible depth as an actor, Grodin is often remembered for his brilliant performances in The Heartbreak Kid and Midnight Run. A master in the art of deadpan, he delivered some of the most hilarious performances of his career during his numerous appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson and Late Night with David Letterman. But in an incredibly admirable twist, Grodin used his role as a CNBC talk show host to launch himself into the role of social activist. He became a fierce champion for prison reform and for the last twenty years of his life worked tirelessly to get several unfairly convicted women out of prison, many of whom were mothers of color with children at home. A true Pittsburgh hometown hero, his life story starts as a steady ripple of laughter that continues to rise only to surprise everyone and become a tidal wave of hope.

JFilm - Midas Man
Doors 6:30 PM / Movie 7:30 PM
Our Opening Night film is a stylish musical biopic that explores the life of Brian Epstein, the visionary Jewish manager whose bold guidance propelled the Beatles to their meteoric rise and global stardom. Known as the “fifth Beatle,” Epstein ushered the scrappy Liverpool band from smoky backroom clubs to sold-out stadiums, but his brilliance was at times overshadowed by his own personal demons. Jacob Fortune-Lloyd (The Queen’s Gambit) delivers an incredibly raw and authentic portrayal of Epstein, a world-class disrupter long before anyone ever started using that terminology. Featuring a wonderfully nostalgic soundtrack and the kaleidoscopic backdrop of the Swinging Sixties in London, Midas Man delivers a wonderfully bittersweet portrayal of the man who made sure the entire world came to know the Beatles!
